Hydrospider honoured

GS1 Switzerland honoured Hydrospider’s logistics concept for green hydrogen with the Swiss Logistics Award 2021

In the coming years, Hyundai will grow its production of commercial hydrogen vehicles to approximately 1,600, significantly advancing the decarbonisation of heavy goods transport. In order to meet the resulting increase in demand for hydrogen, the necessary value chain, infrastructure and logistics must be further expanded.

Currently, the emission-free fuel is being produced in the first Swiss green hydrogen production facility at the Alpiq hydropower plant in Niedergösgen. The hydrogen is produced by electrolysis with renewable electricity. After being compressed to 350 bar, it is transported in nine pressure cylinders per 20‑foot container to the hydrogen filling stations as needed. On site, the containers are connected to a docking station. This eliminates the need for an additional storage tank at the filling stations. Hydrospider received the Swiss Logistics Award 2021 for this efficient and cost-effective concept with the swap bodies and docking stations, which were specifically designed by H2 Energy. GS1 Switzerland has been honouring new and pioneering logistics services with this award since 1996.

The expected 1,600 commercial hydrogen vehicles will eliminate up to 33,000 tonnes of diesel per year and reduce CO2 emissions from road transport by approximately 120,000 tonnes.
